OMG. Ha.And when I thought it was embarrassing with the hillbillies of the marsh, those television-making mavericks bring back what should be the long-gone,"Family Feud"where, apparently there is an endless line of hopeful, clueless, shameless families who will camp outside of the studio for a chance to embarrass themselves on national television. Host Steve Harvey and his pageant gaff at 'Miss World' gala aside with google-eyes,shocked looks and all aside, it's the typical, happy-to embarrass ourselves 'Middle-Road family looking to win some cash-and they don't even have to eat some unidentifiable creep-crawly things!(Dec29,2015-K.P.)

 proot Spaghetti'o's-no. Maybe a new cereal..?Rhetoricrunch"

RHETORIC-SOMETHING ABOUT THAT WORD has piqued my curiosity for a very long time.Maybe it's that silent, underused "h"..?

RHETORIC:the art, practise and study of of human communication whose principal pupose is PERSUASION,to help  shape attitudes, evoke particular emotions(whether happinesess, sadness, guilt  ...which ,in turn, induces actions in others. Because we've bastardized it so otver the years, it is often reduced to regular use un the advertising industry to lure consumers in to buy a product, whrther a hajburger, soft drink, or car.

LOGOS-the logical appeal; the if..., then equation..!

PATHOS/BATHOS: appeal to emotions

and

ethos: appeal to our ethical sides(right or wrong..)

aFTER THE DEFEAT OF THE SOUTH IN THE cIVIL wAR(1865), the U.S. government under U.S. Grant turned its attention and the largest, best trained and equipped professional 'Union' army on the planet to the West and to clearing the frontier for the ever-growing number of settlers enticed by gold rush, or free land of marauding 'savage' Indians who had lived off the land for centuries and were now deemed a threat. President Grant, never known to sympathize with the native population gave his army commanders much freedom in making the Frontier safe for settlement. All the military and political leadership seem to agree that with continuous, sporadic raids on white settlers, the Indian 'menace' needed to be removed. They were to be considered "pests"- and required extermination, so "progress" and civilization could continue unchecked. Even his former and diminuitive crony, Phillip Sheridan, he appointed General-in Command of the Army of the West(west of the Mississippi River); it was Sheridan who coined the devilish,"The Only Good Indian is a dead Indian!" So, it should not be surprizing to learn the men under his command held as bad or even worse sttitudes toward the Plains-Dwellers.(May05,2015-Kim P.)
